Swapping out a mechanical radiator fan for an electric one? I have an '06 Trailblazer and was considering doing this.

If its not broken don't fix it. The mechanical fan operates off a clutch that engages it only when needed, easing the load on the motor.
Your electric fan, unless you do some creative wiring will run as long as the engone runs, keeping it from overheating, but putting excess strain on your alternator and electrical system.

I've actually seen trucks with the mechanical fan pulling air and an accessory electric fan in front of the airconditioning radiator / condensing coils pushing air. In this case it's because these guys pull long trailers loaded with a race car.
If your cooling system isn't heating up In my opinion the whole deal is a waste of money. You'll need to remove the rear fan shroud and fabricate attaching points and hope you can find a plug in your cooling system for the fan temperature relay. You may pivk up 2-3 horsepower, why bother.

you mean just the fan,yes it is worth it if your having an over heating problem with it,other wise its just a waste of money on it,that's usually the only reason people do this, i own a repair shop, and people have me switch them out, because their vehicle is over heating,if its not causing any problems i wouldn't change it,good luck with it.
