Don't try to stop the leprechauns, they're honest, decent little people. Share your wine gums with them (they like the green ones best, which is fine by me, I like the black ones) and they may share their power of luck with you.
I'm sure the individual you encounter will tell you too but I will tell you. They only share the luck, they can't determine whether it will be good luck or bad luck; you're purity of heart will be a big factor in that.

Mousetrap just inside the packet should catch em red handed.
If that seems a bit mean you could try hanging a garland of 4 leaf clovers round the door. No idea if that would work, but at least it's an effort.
