I am a HUGE Chains fan, but the clips I saw of them in concert post Layne, SUCK. No beef with the band, but the vocals weren't right. Layne's style is hard to duplicate and I'm wondering if anyone who has seen them recently feels the same. I mean no disrespect to their current singer. He just shouldn't try to sing Layne's songs in MY OPINION. Anyone else?

as much as I like AIC they are one of those bands that should never be reformed. Their sound was created through all the talents in the band and never be matched without Layne. Its kind of like the doors trying to relive the golden years with Ian Astbury on vocals .....Its just not the same and shouldn't be done

First off, AIC is one of my all time favorite bands. They have got me thru half of my life! I first saw them live back in 91, and I wa completely blown away. Saw them again later that year, same thing. I have seen them 3 times more recently with William Duvall, and I was honestly pleased with the job he does "covering" Layne's songs. I was VERY skeptical, as to me, there is NOBODY that can replace Layne. And I don't think William is trying to replace him at all, moreso pay tribute. Also, Jerry Cantrell sings a good portion of the vocals. Nothing will ever compare to Layne, but I still get goosebumps when I see Jerry, Mike and Sean up there belting out those tunes I love so much.

I love AiC, and I love Jerry Cantrell's solo work as much, if not more. I was very disappointed when he recruited a new singer to perform, and they went out as Alice.

In all fairness, though, I saw Jerry a few years ago with the same vocalist (it was Jerry solo, not an AiC show) singing Layne's parts on some of the Alice stuff, and the singer was DEAD-ON Layne. If you had closed your eyes, you wouldn't have known the difference.

I agree. My local radio station played some live recordings they did when they came to town on tour. I wasn't impressed, the guy seems to be a good singer, just not meant to sing AIC songs. I told myself that when this new version of AIC came to town, I'd go see them just because I never got to see them perform back in their day, and it'd be cool to see Jerry, Sean, and Mike together. However, when tickets went on sale, I just couldn't get myself excited enough to purchase any. I know Jerry is the primary song writer and founder of the band, but it's not AIC without Layne. I wasn't against the idea of them getting a new singer just to tour and play old songs for the fans, but now I hear they are gonna make another album with the AIC name, and I don't think that's right. The book on AIC should be closed with some integrity.

A friend of mine just recently introduced me to AIC, and I LOVE them! Layne was an amazing vocalist. I've seen the clips of the new singer and he seems ok, but when you watch the videos of Layne there is no comparison.

There simply is no replacing Layne. However, Jerry Cantrell would have been the only logical choice if you wanted to keep AIC chugging along. He did a lot of backing vocals on the older material, so it would have been doable. So at one point they were going to be like Pigface with various guest lead vocals, a real bad idea. Now they went ahead and hired William DuVall. I don't think that's going to work.

It's really going to be tough to replace Layne as he's one of the greatest vocalists of all time. You will have to expect a change in style when a major member leaves a group...as Metallica and KoRn have seen in recent years.

I haven't even listened to any of their music post Layne...They are still my fav. band of all time but honestly without Layne there really isn't a AIC...Don't get me wrong Jerry is still awesome.

I totally agree with you. And that isn't your opinion...that is fact. You should mean disrespect to the new singer, though, as he is completely disrespecting Layne's legacy. They aren't Alice In Chains anymore, they are Alice In Fakes. What really bothers me is that they're going to record a new album under the name Alice In Chains. The thought of that makes me want to vomit. That guy is terrible. I guess they really need the money (or really want it).
