They come in chips and whole nuts out the side of my lawn mower and I am afraid one will come out and knock me out. I live in a rural area and I am sure the squirrels will need these to eat this winter. Should I pick them up in to a pile or should I leave them and just keep mowing over em? Can you think of an easy way to pick them up?

Ok, I have 3 full grown walnut trees in my back yard. Thats equivalent to about a week of raking and the trees are still dropping them. How about I vacume them up with my wet dry vac?

Use one of those yard rakes with the tines close togather. And set them out in an area where you don't mow.
Get an old sheet and rake them on to it , gather up the corners and then you can carry it like a bag,
Wet dry vac, will they fit though the hose? and you still have to lug them, and all the other stuff sucked up to. Anyway , it ought to be interesting to see how much noise is made plopping the bloomin things in the vaccumn. Can I watch??

If you want a mower left I would suggest picking them up. Leave a couple of them at the base of the tree for the squirrels. The only way to pick them up is good old fashioned back breaking work. Good luck!

Use a lawn rake and get them all together, then if you think the squirrels want them pole them somewhere that you do not mow. Besides being potential ammo for the mower to throw they are also great ankle twisters.

Unless you want to loose an eye, or get a big lump on your noggen clean up the yard first. Read your instruction manual, it clearly states to pick up any loose materials in your yard before mowing.

Rake them into a pile at the bottom of your yard and leave them there for the squirrels. They'll get rid of them for you.
I just watch for spots they've tried to bury them in my yard.I remove those and toss them back on the pile.

Besides the fact that you can shoot your eye out with the shrapnel, they wreak havoc on your mower blades. You probably have all sorts of gouges and pits on the blades now which will make it cut really crappy later on. I have to deal with pine cones. It's amazing what a damp pine cone will do to a mower blade.
