I think that if you are not going to use programs that take up too much RAM, then you do not need to upgrade your memory. However, if you are going to use large programs that take up a lot of RAM, then it would be a very good idea to upgrade your memory otherwise your laptop will be very slow.

If you want to play those games that doesn't require high-end graphics card etc. I recommend you to upgrade to 3-4 GB RAM, and might want to upgrade your graphic card, you can get decent ones under £50 (search on eBay or Amazon) and I also recommend upgrading to Windows 7, games run a lot faster on it. Your processor seems fine for games like Spore, World of Goo. But games like Crysis, Far Cry 2, you need to a way better processor than this. Try that.

Since you are buying new, I'd recommend you go ahead and 2 gigs now. It won't add that much to the price.

If you will be using XP, you may be ok, but if you will be getting VISTA, you really should have 2 gigs.

Yes, you can upgrade it later, so either way, it won't be a major problem.

Processor, on the other hand, is not upgradable, but it actually is a smaller part in the whole performance. I think either one would be OK, but my PERSONAL preferance is an Intel Core2 Duo.

Upgrading RAM is always worth it. But if you can, do it yourself. You will very often pay $100 for an extra 1 GB of RAM when you could buy it yourself for $30. I would upgrade the processor as Intel's lineup is currently better than AMD's, then when you get it home, upgrade the RAM yourself (or have a friend do it.)

It all depends on what you want to do. More memory might make it run faster, but ONLY if the applications you're running are currently running out of memory. In most cases, 1 gb is more then enough.

NOTE: Unless you plan to upgrade to a 64 bit Operating System like Vista 64, stay away from going above 2 gb of memory. You need a 64 bit OS to address anything above 2 gb.

Get the top CPU, the core 2 duo. You can always upgrade RAM later by buying a memory stick and putting it in. The CPU cannot be upgraded.

In order to upgrade from an AMD to an INTEL you would need an entirely different motherboard because they use entirely different chipsets. I think you're fine with the CPU you have now.

I think 1GB Is the bare minimum people should have in their computer, 2gb isn't a VAST improvement but I recommend it if you like to open things a lot and do a lot of multi-tasking.
