It can make you sterile or make it hard for you to have children.
I had an abortion and it was "incomplete" I got a major infection and had to have a DNC.
When my Husband and I decided to have children it took over a year to get pregnant. I had lots of scar tissue and that made it difficult.
I also gave birth prematurely and it could have been due to all the scar tissue.
Please don't got an abortion... seek help.

Not abortion tablets, if you had multiple surgical (D&C) abortions possibly you could have issues with cervical incompetence but not from just one or 2 operations, many women have D&Cs for other reasons and still go on to have successful pregnancies. As many as 1 in 5 women have an abortion at some stage in their lives and the majority have no future fertility issues. I had an abortion when I was 17 and went on to have a miscarriage (caused by food poisoning in the 2nd trimester nothing to do with the abortion) and then 2 healthy kids. I have no regrets whatsoever about the decisions I made at the time and I cannot believe where the "5% die" figure comes from, certainly not in the developed world, possibly in Africa where instruments might not be sterilised properly.

I have known women who had gotten abortion to get pregnant again. I guess it depends on the person. I know I had an abortion about 11 years ago and I hate I made that choice. I do not have any children and desire a baby so bad. I am 44 years old and I missed an opportunity of a life time. Please, think twice.

Abortion even by a "reputable" doctor in a legal clinic can cause permanent infertility in a variety of ways. Some women form scar tissue in the womb and tubes afterwards -- you wouldn't know if you were one of them until you had the abortion. There can be other complications as well, and an abortion clinic will RARELY explain what each one is nor will they provide any data on the frequency of these complications.
Please know that if you are considering an abortion because you think you don't have any other choice, there are many, many people who would love to help give you other options, including adoption and parenting your child. Even if the baby is disabled in some way, there are people who would adopt him/her and give him/her everything he/she needs for a good life. Plus you can get FREE assistance with clothing, medical care, housing, nutrition, and everything else you may need. You don't HAVE to choose abortion -- open your phonebook and look up "crisis pregnancy center" or "Birthright" or "adoption agencies" or even just the name of the local Catholic Church (you don't have to be Catholic), and they'll tell you how to get the help you need so you don't have to have an abortion and risk your fertility.
NOTE to the person above who said "abortion is safer than childbirth" -- How could it possibly be considered "safer" when at least half the people who experience abortion wind up dead? (The fetus half...always dead...and sometimes women die of complication, so it's more than 50%.) In childbirth, the death rate is much, much, MUCH lower than 50%.

Yes there have been cases where women have gotten an abortion and when they try to get pregnant again later on in their life they can't because the abortion went wrong somehow and made the woman infertile. There have also been cases where abortions have killed the mother in the process of killing the baby. So if you think of getting one be very careful and look at aborted fetuses to see if they are human or not.

There is always a risk that abortion can cause sterilization of the mom or even miscarriages in the future- regardless of who performs it. The risk is small if you have a skilled person doing it, but it's still there.

As long as you go to a clinic and do it the proper way your chances of infertility are less than 1%. I've had an abortion and I'm pregnant now. There is nothing wrong with my baby and so far the pregnancy has gone smoothly. Oh and by the way abortion is A LOT safer than childbirth. Anyone who says different doesn't know what they're talking about.

Surgical abortion can damage the cervix. If you were considering abortion, I would ask for either the pill method or the chemical abortion method - neither is pleasant, but you can still have children afterwards and you can often do it in the privacy of your own home.

I have a friend who had an abortion when she was younger and she has been pregnant 3 times and has miscarried all three pregnancies. The Dr. has told her that it can be from the abortion.

Only in extremely rare cases. Most studies have shown that abortion generally does not affect future fertility.
