26 = P = 2L + 2W
13 = L + W
13 = L + 9
4 = L

2007-08-28 05:21:41 · answer #1 · answered by Philo 7 · 0 1

P=2L+2W
26=2L+2(9)
26=2L+18
2L=26-18
2L=8
L=8/2=4
L=4

P = 2L + 2W = 2(L + W) = 26
L + W = 26/2 = 13 ft
L = 13 - W
Substitute the value of W = 9
L = 13 - 9 = 4
so length = 4 ft

perimeter = length + length + width +width
perimeter = 2 length + 2 width
perimeter = 2 length + (2 x 9)
26 = 2 length + 18
2 length = 26 - 18
2 length = 8
length = 8/2
thus, length = 4ft

length is 8.1/2 ft, the width is 4.1/2 ft.Unless equation is wrong you can't have length shorter than width.
8ft 6 in X 4ft 6in =17ft,L+9ft,w= 26ft.
8.5x2 =17, 4.5x2 =9
17 +9 =26
EDIT-You all got the length shorter than the width, that's a first!
EDIT-you all agree that 2w+2L=P. Right?
2w=9, 26-9=17, 17devided by 2=8.5, 8.1/2..
You cannot have width longer than length.....
EDIT- YOU CANNOT HAVE WIDTH, LONGER THAN LENGTH........IN A RECTANGLE...

2L + 2w = 26
2L + 2(9) = 26
2L = 26 - 18
2L = 8
L = 8/2
L = 4ft
