The bike is a 96 yzf 600 (old body) with a yoshimura exhaust. Thats the only performance part. The bike has had issues from the start. After i changed the fuel pump, to a universal fuel pump it also is regulated. I bought the bike knowing the fuel pump was out. The bike idols only at high rpms such as 2500 to 3000 rpms. All the Bowls were throughly cleaned out along with all the jets and bleeders. Air filter is brand new.

The fuel pump already has a fuel filter that is perfectly clean. The gas that is coming out of the gas tank looks perfect and smells perfect.

Its red, but feels like little bugers. Looks somewhat like rust. When I first saw this I had my tank cleaned out for me, thats how i know its not my tank. Also thats when the bike was being ran everyday.

if you have a clean fuel filter just before gas goes into the carbs, then I can't believe your bowls are full of gunk.
However, If you are leaving the bike for up to 6 months without running it, then that's gas that's gone off, but since you say it smells fine then this is a mistery. An alien comes at night.
What does the gunk look like????

Have you checked the gas tank for sediment or crud? Is there a good fuel filter in the system?

The strainer in the tank at the fuel valve might be damaged or missing.

If the tank was painted recently, you might have paint residue inside the tank.

One last thought - are you using good quality gas? Some cheap gas stations have problems with crud in their tanks. You might want to change gas stations.

As for the high idle - make sure the throttles are closing completely...

sounds like the fuel tank may have some particles in it. try emptying the tank completely and putting new fuel in it -- should be a filter at the tank shutoff -- make sure and clean it .

Yamaha sells a great 2 part cleaner that will get any rust or gunk out of your tank. It is not harmful if you spill it on your paint.
