most of my friends have had theirs, and they're surprised when I tell them I haven't. Is the height thing a misconception, like people assume taller girls have had their period because they look older? also, i've heard that moms and daughters start their periods around the same time. my mom had hers when she was 12 and I've still had nothing, not even a little spotting. my doc said i'd have it months ago. (I know she's not god or anything but still!) so what gives?

Yes, usually you start to menstruate around the same time your female relatives do (mom, sister or aunt), check in with all of them & see when they started (besides your mom).
If you're tall & don't have a lot of body fat, you might not get your period for a while. Female athletes stop bleeding due to lack of body fat but begin menstruating after the stop competing.

personal question - have you grown a chest yet - periods begin 2 years after what they call breast budding.
if you have no breast budding then you could have a hormonal problem.
you are not abnormally tall, but excessive height can be a sign of a hormonal problem.
we usually start our periods within years of our mothers, but your fathers side of the family can also figure, so you could ask that side of the family.
if yo0u have not started by 16 usually tests will be done

Just give it a little more time. Some women don't receive theirs until 17.

just relax. you should feel lucky that you havent had it yet. even if you do feel out of place. it will come and you will wish you haddent.
sorry about the mis-spellings!
