I am intrested in getting a pet. My parents will NOT let me get a cat, dog, feret, bird, or lizard. I have about $200 to spend for everything(pet, food, cage, anything else it might need) Im completly torn as to what pets I can get that would be good ones. I would like something that didnt bite or smell. Do you know any good pets that fit into this catagory?

Gerbils! I have two! They are dinural, so are awake night and day. They get very excited about any new thing you put into the tank for them and will immediately explore it. You can make cardboard buildings/tunnels for them and they will love crawling into, through, over, and on them. Then they will gnaw it all up. You can house two for a $25 10 gallon set up. They are by far the cleanest of all the small pets, so bedding is not a big expense. They live in clans and groom, nest, play together. You can house up to seven boys in one tank (five gallons of space per gerbil). They are easy to breed and both mother and father are great parents. Gerbils come in about 40 colors and varieties. They are not a big commitment as the life span is about 3 1/2 years. Gerbils are really the best rodent to have in my opinion!

Here are some good sites!- http://www.abcgerbils.com/ and http://www.agsgerbils.org/index.php......

Good luck on everything, I hope you get to experience the joy of owning a pet gerbil!=)

Well most pets smell a little. My first pet was a rat named Fluffy and he was the best thing EVER! After him I just continued to keep rats. Rats are a lot better to keep than gerbils, mice, and hamsters becuase they are not only smarter but they tend to be more domestic. You can got to Petsmart or any store and ask for a domestic rat. You will need a pretty good sized cage, I know they have some for rats at Petsmart, and you can also find toys, water bottles, and food there.

What about a fish? I had a really great male beta for about 4 years. He and I got along swimmingly.

The whole set up will cost less than $200.

There are also guinea pigs, very cute little guys, but kind of smelly (you'd have to stay on top of cleaning up after them.)

Some people are into snakes and spiders (big hairy ones), and I am not, but those are options too.

Guinea Pig. They're quiet. Inexpensive, and have a long life span. They're GREAT pets. You can pick them up and they wont go crazy like hamsters. All you'll need is a " My Home" Pet cage I think its $70 it comes with the cage, treats, bedding, and I think food. The guinea pig itsle d costs 30.00 here I might be different where you live. The food in also inexpensive.

Good Luck.

Goldfish. They don't: bite, smell, lose hair(!), destroy furniture, mess the house, annoy & disappoint others, make noises, suffer from illness easily. They are cheap, beautiful and don't need much care. Negative characteristics: boring, die quickly (however, if you feed them once every 2-3 days and wash their globe- change their water every 2 weeks they may live for years. My fish is 6 years old!!)

You can get a dworf squirrel. Look them up on the internet. They are so cute. They sell them at alot of pet stores. They are alittle smaller than a regular squirrel, kind similar to a chipmunk.

i would suggest a hamster. they dont smell if you take care of them rite. and dont bite after you socialize them. you will need:

-cage (get one with a removable wheel and u can add a bigger one cuz when theyre on the wheels the hamsters back is supposed to curve as little as possible, and theyre back should NOT touch the center nob/ support thing)
-food
-treats (yogurt drops, they LOVE yogurt drops)
-bedding (i recommend carefresh ultra or colors)
-wooden chew sticks/ blocks
-hamster (duh)
- run-about ball
- toys
