i wouldn't say they deserved it as such. but they really should co-operate with the rest of the world, since most countries give them so much airtime on the news, but they don't even bother saying what's going on elsewhere. so if they actually think things through first before going off and becoming completely self-righteous about themselves, then maybe half the terror wouldn't have happened.
but after reading some of the other answers, i'm actually starting to doubt my answer

I seriously doubt that any country deserves to be bombed, or threatened by them. There is nothing wrong with being excited at sporting events. It is celebrated that way all across the world not just the U.S.. But, if people have such a low opinion of the U.S., why don't they come for a visit and walk in an Americans shoes for awhile before passing such ridiculous judgments. :)

Well, I don't recall any Americans knifing each other and rioting at soccer matches. I don't recall any American Christians burning down foreign embassies in retaliation for blasphemy.
I know the US doesn't have an imperialistic history like England, Spain and France do.
If I'm not mistaken, we "pigheaded" Americans are by far the most charitable and giving country on Earth. Heck we even sent aid workers into Iran after a massive earthquake a few years back, while their leaders claim that the Katrina disaster was God punishing us.
Yeah, I guess we deserve being attacked by Radical Islam for the last 30 years. As do the Israelis, the Spaniards, the British and the innocent civilians throughout the world who fall victim to a random bomb exploding in front of them. Those Islamic extremists are just doing what anyone else would do in their place. It's everyone elses fault that they behave like barbarians.

every country has their idiots.. trust me. don't make harsh judgements based on what you see on TV.. if i did that, all Brits would be snagled-toothed, drunk, and wearing a Princess Di shirt... look, the US is the world's lone super-power left... we have a responsibility to do what needs to be done when others cannot or will not. i accept the flack we take for having that responsibility. small price to pay. but,we do not DESERVE the "problems" we get from extremists... did the UK deserve the bombings in the subway? my point is, no matter WHAT you do.. fundamentalist Islam is ALWAYS going to hate you. you could be holed up in a mountain and cut off all communication with the outside world and they would STILL want you dead if you're not Muslim... read the Quaran, it explains how they think..

quote your post
"slap each other silly at sporting events and scream big whoaaa's when anything in the slightest happens?"
anything in the slightest happens?
Where ...on the field?
This is a big deal to you?
People making noise at sporting events?
It's is almost like saying 911 occured because people blow off steam at sporting events.
Slap each other silly?....
Interesting...is this phenomena widespread?
Maybe the terrorists should to bomb Buckingham Palace for soccer hooligans who do a lot more than just slap each other.
I don't like sports either.
But I don't blame them for terrorism.
That is asinine

No more than we do in Britain, we have as many disparate people and are just beginning to see the rewards of having so many lax laws on immigration and quite frankly i don't much like the look of the future. Have you watched game shows, sporting events in this country the people don't behave any different. I have met many Americans over the years and rarely have i found them to be as they are portrayed on TV.

The people you see represented on TV are sometimes the people we Americans least want to represent us. The citizens of the United States are so diverse that to say that we as a people deserve something is stereotyping who we are.

Do we deserve to be attacked by terrorist extremists because we are annoying? Absolutely not.
If by "problems with extremists" you mean only the annoying shout-downs around here on Y!A, which people who call liberals "communists" and call conservatives "Nazis?" Yeah, I'd say that our public persona of "my way or the highway" does hold some responsibility for that. The consequence of behaving in a way others find annoying SHOULD be that they are annoying back.
The consequence should never be a physical attack.

No, actually, I don't. Are you honestly excusing these terrorists because you think they have a reason for mass murder? Is there ever a reason for mass murder? And how about the attacks in London and Glasgow? Were Americans giving some Muslims a hard time there so the terrorists decided to kill some Brits? Incredible!

Not at all. America is the greatest and the kindest country on Earth. People like to put down America, which of course is wrong (mostly Americans themselves). Americans who put down their country have no pride in it at all. Take pride in where you live. America has done so much for people in the world. It also has the most freedom. America doesn't deserve any of it's troubles. BUT of course, people blame someone for their problems. Take pride in your country. Call it a crusade.
