This is the way I see it:
They're shooting way too much from outside the 18 and aren't penetrating the defense. Of course a lot of distant shots will get you a goal here or there. But the goals will start pouring in once they can get behind the defensive line and so far they've been having trouble doing this.
I credit this to possibly two things,
1) Rooney is injured and Tevez is having trouble holding his own up front. In my eyes, Tevez has been virtually ineffective and this is what is causing the midfielders to just fire the ball on target.
2) The midfielders are just having trouble producing attacking options and moving the ball up themselves to challenge defenders. I see a lot of lateral passing which is good, but they're not breaking the line. They end up just gettting frustrated time after time and then firing the ball towards the net from 30-40 yards out. From this you get Nani's goal, but you also get a lot of missed shots, blocked shots and easy saves.

Tevez needs to be behind a striker to be most effective. Saha is on his way back, Rooney will be back sooner than first thought. We have to grind it out until they are all on the pitch and fit. Why spend money on a striker that will spend his time on the bench when these guys return or hit form. With that said though, its a catch 22 because if we suffer like this again we will have no depth to cover things a second time especially with Ole's retirement.

Rooney is already back in training.
Saha is ready to play against Sunderland.
Tevez is fit but is still getting up to pace with the team.
That's three great strikers.
If it were a crisis,Fergie would have gotten someone by now.
I like Anelka as a player, but we really don't need him,and he sulks a lot!

You did alright the other night, not amazing but okay. I'm a strong Manchester City fan after all living in Manchester you can't beat abit of derby day. Also I wouldn't expect much from Tevez either. Although they prooved that if they acctually shoot with the ball they tend to score. Whats the point of having 69% possesion and no goals? Manchester United need some fresh talent (as they showed last season) and to shoot more often and take the chances.

wow JR1984 someone who agrees with me about Defoe! :O, I dont think its just a striker crisis, playing Manchester United as a 4-3-3 is just wrong, "experts" are saying fergie is tinkering up for europe but at this rate we wont even get into the UEFA cup! Defoe for sure sjould come to utd, Berbabtov won't come due to spurs chaiman demanding top 4 finish so they cannot sell their top striker to a "rival"... GO FOR DEFOE is what I say, Anelka is ex-arsenal and ex-CITY! grrr so I wouldnt welcome him to the club, he has no loyalty to a club

We won't get Berbatov, so i say Defoe or Anelka, both i think are unhappy. Defoe is just being wasted at Spurs.

Ps. i think we should block all the haters, i already did that to normg i think u should do the same. Im sick to death of his pathetic comments about Utd cheating.

relax, man. have faith in fergusons choices. nobody was expecting nani to score that awesome 30m goal, but he did. chelsea was laughing at ferguson for buying nani during the summer, saying he wasnt worth 17m pounds!! and what happened? nanis laughing now, automatically a man utd hero. :D
what we DO need is better defence, if ya ask me.
