Plus 3/5 that can't find Canada or Mexico on the map. And why can't they find Europe on the North American map? It's a taxing task.

Unfortunately, because a large majority of the American public is extremely ignorant and uneducated. What makes it worse is that many of them are fine with it. Of those who take the time to become educated and strive for knowledge, the United States holds the best of them, but sadly, the fewest.

The question isn't why don't they know. The question should be why don't they want to know?
If someone is in a position in life where they don't even care where they are, what good is a geography class or a map going to do them?

Well, half of those are probably BS-ing the person who asked. But there certainly are people who have never learned to read a map. You'd think they'd recognize it from the weather map on TV, though, wouldn't you?

you know that those numbers are complete BS. Statistics are the worst kind of lies. That study was prolly done in some town with a population of 17 down in Mississippi. There are VERY few people that cannot honestly find the US on a map....now Iraq, etc. thats a diff question.

NO WAY!!! YOUR SHITTING ME.. you should check this piece of art out by....**** i forget the name, but she got people from all around the world to draw world maps. different creeds and colours. The europeans did the best, but everywhere else seems pretty dim.

Cuz they were not paying attention in geography class. Most people cant even recognize all the US States. They could not list the continents or even know what continents are!!!
