Hya, there's a few out there depending on who it is you want to chat to which are 100% free :)
One is Plentyoffish - though it is seen as a dating site it isn't just for dating, its for making friends too. You can specify who and what it is you're are looking for ie// Chat online, Friends, Hang Out and so on. Its got an IM feature, plus you can see who's viewed your profile too. Its got members from round the Globe :) Its 100%free too.
Another one is Mingleville - this is another 'Social' website, you have features on it where you can create your own blog, view who's looked at your profile, leave comments on other peoples profiles and send/recieve messages. Its 100% free. Members are also from around the Globe :)

Yahoo chat has the facility to allow either one to one by going 'private messages' or going into a privat cabin its free and lots of different age groups and interests including Adult

You can try Yahoo Chat but I dont' think alot of people use that anymore. Other than that, I have no suggestions.
