Simply speaking, technique defines how to move your muscles, and which muscles to use in what way in order to make your dancing look the way it should. Why do you need it? Proper technique allows you to perform harder elements because doing it properly is the only way to do them without falling. Learning technique for dancing is like learning alphabet, grammar and spelling for proper writing. Kava put it very nicely.

If you want the absolute definition, you would look in a dictionary or encyclopedia.
Technique has different meanings to a different person, meaning each individual body has individual needs. Because dancing is an art, not a sport-I believe technique has to do with the line of your body, such as if a small tilt in your head will make the line smoother. I may not have danced and have experience, but i do know that technique makes the body look beatiful and have emotion. If you are still confused, you should ask your dance instrutor.

Technique is like the general things you should always be thinking about for every step. For example, your feet should always be pointed (unless the teacher says otherwise). In ballet, your legs should be turned out. You should have good posture. Your arms should extend all the way when they're supposed to extend, and when they're in front of you they should be in the right place. Technique is most important in ballet, where everything is supposed to look a certain way. It is also very important in lyrical and jazz. It is slightly less important in tap, because rules like pointed feet don't really apply. It is least important in hip hop, where a dancer's personal style is really all that matters.
Technique is important to your dancing because without it, each step just looks like it could be better. With good overall technique, you can master new steps more easily because you know the basics. And your dances will just look better if you have good technique.
Hope this helps!

Generally with 'technique' one defines a codified set of movements that is characteristics of a particular genre of dance and usually directly derived from the pieces presented on stage. For e.g. there is a Graham technique, a Limon, ... but also a ballet technique and their goal is to enable the dancer to perform a determined step in a determined piece. What is particular in ballet for example is that the body and its movements are thought to have the greater frontal visibility and are designed so to get the impression of weightlessness. Contrary, almost all the modern dance techniques are characterized by the use of the natural body weight. Actually, no movement is 'wrong', it only does not belong to this particular technique one is learning. And this also occurs to legendary 'sickled foot' which is actually characteristic of some eastern dance techniques. In short: it is like getting to know the rules of a game you started playing and then stick to them. I hope is not to theoretical!

technique is well pratically ..ur assets (not as in boobs nd eyes )but in a dancing way almost ,such as flexibility, gd stamina, pointed feet-good arch, strength, good posture. its not what you know or how you dance it, its the basis that you use to dance - its what you are meant to use while youre dancing and is something you have to rle work on. its like the core of your dancing and what you start off and shud always be using with e.g say kicking your leg up - your meant to be using ur flexibility and strength .
if tht makes sense lol the other definition probably makes sense. i kno tht 4 a fact wen u do an audtition they are looking at your technique e.g- Darcey Bussel- amazing ballerina but she started out- she did gymnastics frm a young age and then started ballet at a local skl wen she auditioned at the royal ballet skl wen she was 9 or 12 and although she was very far behind on ballet she had great technique- she had great strength and great flexiblity frm doin gymnastics! and thts how she got in becos they could teach her the ballet easy.
hope this helped x

Technique is the proper position of the body. A pointed toe, a non-sickled foot, keeping the arms in front of the body, etc. Being able to hit a position with your body in proper alignment. I hope this helps clarify a little bit. Good luck with your dancing!

Technique is derived of the words technical, technicalities and so on, so, it refers to the actual mechanics, the actual physical, tangible (scientifically measurable) aspects to the art form itself.
So, in dance theory, Technique = The science of dance. How we put our mind, heart and soul together to create something beautiful, it seems like a mystery, yet we can measure, and almost define it through technique.

technique usually refers to basics of dance and how well everything is executed. Examples of good technique are having your feet turned out, not sickeled, proper placement of arms, plieing, correct bodylines, etc.
