To keep prices low, toys, dog food, toothpaste, well, bascally Everything you find at your local toy store or Target/Walmart is made in China- Go ahead and try to find one thing that's not.
In a country where people spend $58 dollars on a tee-shirt from Abercrombie and Fitch, how much more are you willing to spend (a dollar-two, three?) Per product to keep it made in our own backyard?
Ahem- Fisher Price?
I think Americans are ready for the factories to come back to the states....

I wouldn't mind buying stuff that were made in the USA but a lot of the stuff that are made in the USA are not up to my standards. I will always buy electronics and cars from Japanese companies because they are just a lot more reliable technology than the crappy stuff here in the US. As for american factories coming back here to the states I doubt it will happen. Most Americans want too much money to work and they are too lazy to do it and do it correctly thats why a lot of jobs go over seas where labor is cheep and people will work 15 hour days in brutal conditions just to feed their family.

I usually prefer USA and brand name. This means that I prefer 3 shirts I like over 6 of less quality. I think it would be productive to see study results as to the percentages it would take to make a difference. I would be willing to pay 20 percent just to start.

WOW!!!! excellent point and question. I would be more than willing to pay extra for American made products. We need to start having these companies making their products right here in America. It will keep money here with the American people. I could go on for a long time about this subject.

Considering most people don't need half the crap they buy, I would be willing to pay 4% more than retail for my products to be made in the usa.

Americans have and will buy the lowest cost item on the shelf.
While many products have an American brand name on the container chance are it is only being distributed by that company. Recently bought a Snickers bar and printed on the back Product of china. S & W peaches--Product of South Africa. Was it the Unions or the companies chasing profits?

Yes! AND, lower the prices that we're charged for the foreign goods...the greedy American and International Corporate pigs have not passed on the savings to the consumer... they pay the poor foreign laborer "chump change", and pocket the profits made by keeping prices high for the American consumer. The rich stay rich and the poor stay poor...it's total BS!

Depends, if the item is guaranteed saver I would pay more.
It just doesn't make sense, that having our Products made in China is cheaper.
If we start producing merchandise here, hey, we will have less UN-employed People.Ergo, no more or way less Welfare-People. More money for other things.

you know, i asked myself this question the other day...i just don't understand WHY the u.s. is still getting stuff from china when it seems like everything that comes from there is contamintated with lead. *shrugs* oh well, i guess the u.s. really can never agree on something that's good for this country, right?
p.s. yes, i would pay a little more to have things made in the u.s.a. (my kids would be worth it)

ZILCH. Why should i pay more for the product when the company making it will hire illegal immigrants thereby increasing their profit margin even more?
But if that wouldn't happen i definitely agree that we need to see more "made in the usa" products.
edit: Wow, all thumbs downs. Are you people that naive that you don't think for 1 minute any companies that agree to come back here or not outsource manufacturing won't hire the cheapest labor they can find, including children???? Get your heads out of the clouds!!!
