I did hitchhike when I was in high school but that was a long time and a whole world ago. People were not as crazy. Then I grew up, got a job and a car. As for nowadays.....hell no I wouldn't hitchhike or pick one up!!!

it's obvious these people are out of there luck and need help. i pick up hitchhikers all the time. i'll pull over and pray to God that nothing bad will happen and let the person know i am only going a certain distance but that it will get them that much farther. sometimes it's a short ride but when it's it a distance to go we talk about why or where there going. never forget to ask God to protect you...

My husband told me a lot of homeless people migrate south for the winter. Maybe they are getting there a bit early to stake out a good cardboard box in a great alley? Maybe you should keep a few copies of scary movies in your glove compartment about hitchhikers--pull over and hand it to them and tell them when they get a life and a VCR, watch what happens to hitchhikers.

I've seen the same thing! Including teen girls. No I would never because it's against company policy, I never would with my own car. Got prisons around the area where I live.
One oddity-they took the signs down on the Interstate (I-94, Jackson, MI) -"Prison area-do not pick-up hitchhikers".

In the 60's, hitchhiking was relatvely safe, but with that guy picking up a woman and chopping off both of her arms, it becane a not-safe thing to do. I would never pick up a hitchhiker!!! Back when it was more safe, I did give someone a ride. Never again.
Good luck and may God bless you.

i wont pick up hitchhikers when my kids are in the car, but i did one time pick up this guy, it had just started a bad snow storm and it was snowing like hell, and he had on a McDonald's uniform and was walking on the side of the road and no one was stopping to offer him a ride so i turned around and went back and got him, he was about 17 i think, and he lived all the way on the other side of town, but i gave him a ride home, and the snow kept getting worse and by the time i got him home, it took me 2 hours to get home and normally it only takes about 20 minutes, but i felt like i did a good deed!

no i have never and probably will never pick up a hitch hiker! to scary.... maybe if it was a women who was like 9 months pregnant...
i have never hitchiked, but my brother has. I think that it is just a conciquence of being poor and plagued with the low self esteem which pre-disposes people to not being able to stay employed and off drugs.
Though I am sure that there are people who just want to seek the clarity which can be gained by living in poverty and devoid of materialistic things.

I used to hithchile alot when I was younger but I grew up in a small town in Nova Scotia so alot of people would pick us up because they had nothing to worry about.
Over the years less people pick up hitchhikers due to stories for me it would depend where I was if it was a big city probably no if small rural area then more likely to pick them up.
P.S Hitchiking in the rain sucks no-one picks you up me and my friend had to walk 50 kilometers one day and took like 8 hours.
