Is this feature on its way in to future OSs?

the application I would find this invaluable for is when collaborating with other musicians in the studio so that there is not just one person controlling the settings on all the programs being used... this way patches/presets and parameters can be changed or set whenever needed by either individual in the room.

You can already do that. Both mice can move the pointer and the mice buttons have the same functions.
For DirectX games, it is up to the application. Some games don't support multiple mice or at least allow you to select which mouse to use when there's more than 1 plugged into the computer. This isn't a bug with DirectX or Windows, but narrow-minded thinking on the programmer's part.

You can use two (or more) mice at the same time if you are using a laptop. It will always register the build in mouse, and if you plug in a USB mouse it will see that one also.

But why? What would you use the second mouse for? With only one cursor, it is not like you could be working in two windows at once....

In fact, one of the more common request I get from the user's I support is to disable the build in mouse because if they bump it it fights with their regualr mouse and causes all kinds of problems....

Dual mice = Twin Clicks? That is some serious clicking. I can see where that would come in handy for surfing the traffic exchanges, or having 2 browser windows side by side looking for info, but you would then need another set of eyes to read that fast.

Functionally its already in there. if you connect 2 mice of different types lets say PS2 and USB you can use them both to move the same pointer....unfortunately theres not many programs that can use two mice and that functionality is not built into windows. i wish it was for some of my games but it isnt....
Seach the net though im sure you may be able to find some proof of concept programs that use two mice but i doubt you'da find anything usable...

Yes, Microsoft has the Multipoint Software Development Kit. Still under development though.

IF you have a serial and a PS/2 mouse, plug both in and you'll see that both work but u can use any one at a time.

Practically there is no use for this.

You can do that now, plug in two usb mice...you'll look like a nut job because each mouse will fight for control but you can do it already :)

if you use USB hub you can use 2 USB mouse, but it can be confusing, unless you use 2 different computers.
