They're 8 games back in the division, and not leading the wild card.

I don't think that qualifies them for anything, especially not the best team label.

Alright:
1. Boston Red Sox 80-51
2. Los Angeles Anaheim Angels 77-54
3. Seattle Mariners 73-56
4. Cleveland Indians 73-57
4. New York Mets 73-57
6. Arizona Diamondbacks 74-58
7. New York Yankees 72-59

So, 6 teams better then they are. If their offense is so loaded, they must have been reloading last night. What was the score, oh yeah 16-0. Mariano is the best closer is the game? I think that title goes to Mr. Trevor Hoffman in Detroit. I'll give you Joba, hes hot now. Farnesworth? 1-1 with a 4.21 ERA. hmmm. not that good. Vizcaino has been doin pretty good. Bruney's ok. What about the 28 million dollar man? Clemens? 5-5 with a 4.34 ERA? Yeah he was worth the money. Sean Henn: 2-2 with a 7.49 ERA. Hes doin great. Phil Hughes? 2-2 with a 5.35 ERA. The Moose? 8-10 witha 5.53 ERA. Petite's doing good. Edwar Ramirez. 1-0 with a 5.91 ERA. And you have Rivera with a 3-4 with a 3.38 ERA and only what? 20 saves? oof, definately the best in the league. Ching Ming is great. So you have Joba, Vizcaino, Pettite, and Wang doin good. And you got Rivera, Farnesworth, Clemens, Henn, Hughes, and Ramirez doing bad. Bruney's in there too. So are your Yankees so great now when you really look at it?

That might be the funniest thing i've heard in a long time. Buddy they have been horrible in the bullpen and can't get anything out of their starters. Good luck

Beckett 16 wins 3.21 Wang 15 wins 3.95
Wakefield 16 wins 4.16 Pettite 11 wins 3.69
Dice-K 13 wins 3.76 Mussina 8 wins 5.53
Shilling 8 wins 4.11 Clemens 5 wins 4.34

TOTAL 53 wins 39 wins

You Yankee fans are all alike. Just have to throw questions out there like "Yankees are still best team right" ? I think its funny anyway. I love the fact that you guys convince each other that the Yanks are still the best team in baseball and are going to have to cheer for someone else in the playoffs. Does it burn you that with the highest payroll in the league and your A-rod, Jeter, Matsui, Abreu, Giambi, Posada, Clemens, Rivera, Pettitte, and o yeah even the Moose are going to be on the outside lookin in. Peace and good luck Yankee loser

How can they be the best team in baseball? 8 games behind the Red Sox. Maybe someday you will figure out that the team that looks best on paper won't always be the best on the field. Rivera is past his prime, he WAS one of the best ever (btw,Trevor Hoffman was the best closer ever), but I'd take either Putz or Papelbon over Mo in this day and age.
Also, the only reason you thought the Yankees were back in it was because they played bottom dwellers for an entire month straight. Now they're falling off again because they have to play tough teams consistently and we're seeing what level this team can play to. Plus, the Sox are starting to play again after sleeping through a few months. And the Yankees still can't catch them. You still think they're the best? Not this season.

The best team in baseball? I guess we're watching different versions of the '07 Yankees.

Their offense is impressive, no doubt. But you cannot win without pitching and the Yankees pitching is average at best. Having a decent (yes, decent. Not great, not awesome, not stacked) bullpen doesn't really help much if your starters can't get the job done.

So to call the 2007 Yankees the best team in baseball is letting yourself be blind to the facts....and the record.

It's tough when you have to rest your hopes on your rotation "getting better" 131 games into the season. Their offense is incredible, but it's tough to compete in your division when you give up almost a run more per game than the first place team.

The Yankees still have a good shot at making the playoffs as a wildcard, at which point anything could happen. Right now, though, they have very little claim to being the best team in baseball.

Pitching is everything. And yes, the Yankees offense is stacked, but still, where has that gotten them? Pitching, I repeat, is everything. sure the bullpen is half decent, but you have to have the starters start the way they're supposed to in order to form a bridge to the bullpen. Sorry, the Yankees are no longer the best team in baseball, and though their offense may be the best, their pitching needs help. It need a lot of help.

Sorry Yankee Fans,

Keep Living in the past, w/ those rings !
After getting crush by the Angels, last week and getting smoked last night by the Tigers.....

Better pray to the baseball gods ? Hope they make the playoffs.

All that millions of dollars, being payed to these washed out players... They should be the best team in the MLB.

But they are not....

Hell No-for the Money, the Yankees should be atop the standings. They have some good players, but not the best. I'd stack up any other player on any other team with a yankee and show similar stats. we have already decided here that Jeter is average. A-Rod-good hitter, average defense. Cano, Matsui, Posada???? Who are these f***&^&* guys??? Give me a break...the Yankees arent even first in there division.

Relax.

The Yanks are struggling. The entire pitching staff has been stinkin up the joint. Not just Moose. I don't think Moose is done, but he's doing something to screw himself up. Maybe he's tippin his pitches or something.

The offense is loaded, and EVERY great offense gets shut out from time to time, so I have no worries there.

With a month in the season left, we have time, but Steinbrenner better light a fire under that team and get them sharp soon!

Too bad the best team in baseball can't win. In fact, they just lost 16-0. Get over Rivera, ever heard of Trevor Hoffman?

Yankees are good on paper, but for some reason when they play together, they SUCK.
