as the first poster said, whatever agreement you come up with in terms of sharing.....get it in writing.
might seem a little lame or awkward....but, you will kick yourself in the end if things go bad and you have nothing in writing.

Either they can buy their own food (both of you lable the food you bought) or you can take turns buying groceries with a comon grocery budget agreed on.
The best thing to do is agree that the staples (milk, bread, flour, etc) are community property and will be alternately purchased by you and the room mate while the specialty things such as meat, cheese, and other more "high dollar" items are to be purchased by you individually and labeled to keep down confusion.
get it in writing along with who pays which bills or how much is to be paid by each of you and any other things that need to be agreed upon BEFORE you move in together.

Some share common spices and ingredients like salt, pepper and flour so you don't need two of each but buy individual meat, veggies and fruit. Also think about sharing toilet tissue and other household supplies.
With my long term roommate I do almost all shopping but he buys anything he wants that I don't provide. I knew that when I invited him to live with me so I charged him a little extra rent to cover utilities, detergents and other expenses so I wouldn't need to keep billing him for every little thing.

Yup, and that is the best way to go. If you start sharing expenses, it will only create problems.

It depends on your agreement with each other. Get it in writing.
