When you are nearing ovulation your cervix will be at SHOW--Soft, High, Open, and Wet.
Your cervix will be low most of the cycle and then when it gets high you are nearing ovulation. And it will feel very firm most of the cycle and then when you are about to ovulate it will get soft. The opening will get very slightly open, and your mucus will be clear and stretchy, like raw eggwhites. Here's a pic-- http://www.fertilitycarecentre.co.uk/?id=32

Sorry about your miscarriage. I believe your cervix should be high and open when ovulating and low and closed. It is hard to determine cervix location. When mine is high I can barely feel it or sometimes not at all with my middle finger. When it is low it is a little less than a fingerlength inside. A more effective way of determining ovulation is through charting and watching for changes in your cervical mucus and using ovulation prediction kits. If you do these 3 things you may not even need to check your cervix. I can usually determine through sex because if mine is high sex is usually more comfortable. I don't check my cervix anymore because I am using the other methods I listed and it is confusing. Good luck ttc!!!

How long ago did you miscarry? They do recommend that you wait at least 6 months before you become pregnant again. I'm am not sure about the cervix you can go to any pharmacy and pick up an ovulation kit, that tells you when you are ovulating.
Good luck
