Add some color to your patio landscaping and plant containers while repelling mosquitoes and bugs at the same time. Plant marigolds! For some reason, these flowers exude a fragrance that naturally repels mosquitoes and other pests.

Marigolds are sun-loving annuals that come in a variety of shapes and sizes for almost
any landscape.

Marigolds can be propagated by seeds. The plants need about 45 days to flower after seeding. Cover seeds with 1/4 inch of potting soil. Water sufficiently. Plants will appear within a few days. When true leaves have formed, transplant into individual containers or outdoors. Plant your seeds in half-sunny or sunny locations.
The soil must be well-drained, moist and fertile.
Add potash fertilizers to prolong the flowering period. Pinch off the first flowers before they open. This will lead to a larger number of flowers.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

There is a citronella smalling geranium to repel mosquito's.

Marigolds have two heights..those that grow to 18 to 24 inches and those that stay about 8 to 10 inches. Neither smell good..they repel all sorts of insects..and bunnies are repelled also except they can jump right over the shorter ones.

They come in yellow, orange and a burgandy mixed with the orange..very pretty and have a long blooming period.

They are annuals, need to be planted every year, however they don't need special care......the little insects that do like them can be discouraged with soapy water..

not much to it really, they are pretty hardy and grow from seeds or plants, they are annual so you'd have to replant every year or let the seeds fall, they may come back. they smell strong and spicy which i like and supposedly do repel insects.
For repelling mosquitoes, also try a species of mint - citronella smelling, website below
