i would go traditional, always the best and make sure you have your fireplace on! make ham turkey or duck or all three, biscuits, green bean cassorole, corn, this corn meal stuff that i forgot what it was called, cornbread, cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes, salad and whatever else you want and of course yummlisious desserts!

I guess your choices depend upon how fancy and complicated you want to get.
My mom used to make roast beef with Yorkshire pudding. HMMMM.
My husband does a standing rib roast with roasted potatoes! The meat just falls of the bone, yummy!
If you want to be less complicated, you can do a ham or roast chicken.
I am not so sure about snake. However, I guess you can serve it up as an appetizer.
Start looking in cooking magazines. There should be holiday recipes in the November and December issues.
Libraries may have past issues for you to look through.
Cooking Light does a nice job with holiday recipes. The recipes are tasty but not full of fat and calories. (supposedly healthy).

We have turkey at thanksgiving, so for that reason, I stay away from it.
We always do a prime rib roast (crown roast) ...beef.
We have glazed carrots, green beans with almonds, a potato dish, and a relish tray. I also make homemade rolls/bread.
I make a cream pie with raspberries on top for dessert.
We also have iced christmas sugar cookies, and other homemade candy around.

Turkey or a fancy beef roast are awesome, but I like to make goose when I don't have too many guests. It's like the olde English tradition thing. It's fun and different.
I also make an awesome chocolate cherry trifle for dessert.

For the Roast dinner I had Goose last year, was very fatty and oily but well worth it. The fat can be used to cook the Roast Patoes although I woudnt suhggest that, I thought it made them tasre aweful. As for snacks and other treats. Go for cakes and home baked cookies and busciuts. Check out http://clause.com they have tonnes and toones of ideas.
