"Wins plus losses" is the correct term. While for most teams and in most seasons this is exactly the same as "games played", there are those rare tie games. A tie counts as a game played and all team and personal stats are recorded, but is ignored in the standings.
Here's the game log of the 1961 Yankees, 163 games played, which includes a seven-inning, 5-5 tie against Baltimore on 22-April (back end of a doubleheader). (Maris didn't go yard in this game. Skowron did, though, his first of the season.) Final record of 109-53, 162 decisions and a subsequent .673 winning percentage.

When you divide 87 by 100, Mel, you get the answer. Multiplying by 100 doesn't give you the correct answer. You're just adding an unneeded step.

It's the percentage of games won. So, games won divided by games played (wins plus losses).
