I have an unweighted 3.73 GPA out of 4, and a weighted 3.82. I've only taken a couple honors classes throughout high school (Chemistry and Math 9) and no APs, but I'm going to be taking two APs my senior year (Economics and Psychology). I've taken the ACTs once so far and scored a 29 Composite with a 9 out of 12 on the writing, and I hope to bring that up to at least a 30 on my second go-around. I'm a pretty rounded student as I have been on missions trips to 3 different countries over the past 4 years, helping to build homes for poverty stricken people and help AIDS patients etc... I am very involved in my school's music program (4 years of marching band, drumline, pep band, jazz band, percussion ensemble etc...) and have had many acheivments in the area of music. I'm not sure about class ranking, since my high school doesn't rank. So would Richmond be considered more of a reach or a target?

Yes -- RIchmond is probably a decent school for you. Richmond is an excellent regional school that is fairly selective. The average GPA of incoming students is 3.48. The middle 50% score between 27-30 on the SAT. You have no problems in terms of being qualified.

Richmond accepts 45% of those who apply. I'm sure they reject some students who are well qualified -- but probably not that many. I don't see them rejecting you unless you screw something up (like having a bad essay, etc).

Think about taking the SAT instread of the ACT. Many of the better schools prefer that exam. Apply to Richmond -- but you may also think about applying to some universities that are a little better. You have a shot at a higher ranked school.

There's no reason why you shouldn't apply.

And don't be afraid about money, I'm sure they offer a ton of financial aid/scholarships. It actually cost me less to go to a private school, than public. I think the world of private universities, too. Awesome education.

Are you set on that area, or would you go elsewhere? I would check out Oberlin College (with your music background, I think you'd like it there). Kenyon College is another good option. So are Kalamazoo College and Albion College. How about William&Mary?

As a man or woman that began out able very comparable on your son's modern-day spot in life i will purely upload this. it is not purely with regard to the point wherein he can artwork at, that's approximately his physique of innovations in the direction of to the international wherein he operates. A 14 year old (albeit able) will possibly not flourish in a semi-grownup place. Take it from me, i understand. even nonetheless a skilled guy, probable lots previous to his friends, does not make for a candidate for submit-doctoral artwork. And in as much as a "shot"... nicely, that doesn't additionally be a attention or project at this factor, He has to realize a place the place is grades and ability are to be scored, acknowledged and function a spring board wherein to maintain on with. assessment with the aid of a qualified source (not purely what you deem to be more desirable in nature) is stated as for and can be sought. as quickly as a baseline for his IQ, understanding have been made, a extra advantageous platform on which to invite a number of those questions may well be had.
