Lots of school buses were available to ship the poor out of that doomed city. He did not use it. He is an idiot.

Odd that you mention this. New Orleans conservatives lined up in droves to help re-elect Nagin solely for his obvious incompetence and divisiveness within the city's populace. It's what is referred to as "raiding": vote for the weakest candidate within an opposing party to diminish the credibility and stature of the party as a whole, making it much easier to get one of your own ilk into office in the next election.

Sh...are you trying to let the secret out?

Ray Nagin is pretty worthless, which makes me think the people of New orleans are pretty worthless considering they voted him back in after he totally blew the Katrina effort. Now of course, everyone wants to point their fingers at Bush and FEMA and say its all their fault, and don't get me wrong, there is plenty of blame for them as well. But Nagin and the governor of that mostly democrat, all corrupt state should both be held accountable too. It is not George Bush's fault they didn't put the money that was supposed to go toward levy building into their own pockets. It is not George Bush's fault they did evacuate the city, but instead left the school buses sitting on top a hill when they knew for days the storm was going to be strong and hit them almost directly. These are local and state issues, that no one really cares about because the big fish in the little pond, George Bush, is easier to point a finger at than poor little Ray Nagin and his chocolate city.

The provisional government of Nagin and Blanco is not working. The death toll continues to rise.

We just need to get out and come home!

Yes.

And OMG--to the libs above (and probably below by now)-Nagin was responsible for how many deaths? How many infirm in nursing homes and hospitals were left while all Nagin's "chocolate city" school busses at idle?

Craig? You Dems applaud Clinton's BJ in the oval office. You're the homo's biggest cheerleaders. Gay pride parades--more homosexual education, more homosexual anything--as long as it's 'out there' and not hidden! Why the outrage now? Conservatives will demand he resign in disgrace. Are you being hypocrites now--or did your morality suddenly blossom?

He isn't so much an idiot, as he is a cold calculating politician. He knew that he could make political hay out of the disaster in New Orleans, and he has. My question is how did he get reelected ? Answer.....RACE !

you failed to mention corrupt. but the people there re-elected him so guess they got what they wanted.

if you believe in AL Gore's theory then why should our tax dollars foot the bill to rebuilt this blight on humanity. it is 3' below sea levels that are due to rise by 23' so it doesn't make sense for us to bail them out again.

if a person chooses to live in an area that is prone to natural disasters, that is their choice but they shouldn't expect the rest of the population to foot the bills for their choices.

YES. And sadly, what does that say about the people who Re-elected him?
Can you imagine the backlash if some mayor actually said "Vanilla City"?

First of all Mayor Nagin was not in Houston, he was in the Hyatt Regency Hotel with the rest of us, his family was in Houston. Secondly, he does not have the power to make The Army Corps or Engineers do anything. Thirdly, there were hurricanes that flooded our city long before Ray Nagin became Mayor. New Orleans politics have long been corrupt.

While, I;m not a fan of Nagin's, I hate the fact that one mayor has taken the fall for over 100 years worth of problems.

Yes, his chocolate city comment was ignorant, since he had no African American support in the elections, and wasn't re elected by the African American vote.

But, The problems of New Orleans, did not begin with Ray Nagin.
