My one week old daughter has been doing very well sleeping at night, untill last night that is. I held her for a while before she was asleep just stroaking her hair and talking gently to her she fell asleep so I put her in her bed to hopefully sleep the night away. 15 minutes later she was awake screaming so I fed her and burped her and changed her. She was calm untill I left her bedside. I ended up holding her ALL night because it was teh only thing that would keep her from crying. What might I have done wrong? What can I do to prevent this from happening again tonight? Any thoughts?

Well, honey she is a new born so you are going to have good nights and bad nights. It will start to regulate it self more when she is about 3 months old. I honestly don't believe you can spoil a baby at this age, she just needs you to be there and feel loved and secure. I know it can be so overwhelming so if you feel like you are just at a breaking point, try to have daddy rock and hold her for a couple of hours, or see if you can get a good friend or grandma to come over during the day so you can nap. Time will make it all better, you didn't do anything wrong.

She may be gassy or just need your arms for comfort. Their sleeping habits change so rapidly you may be sleeping for six hours straight tonight and only three tomorrow. Just go with the flow, my 11 week old slept through the night 8 hours all last week but was up three times last night to eat. If you get stressed and tense about it the baby can sense your anxiety and it will only make it worse. Relax, enjoy the quiet time together before you know it she'll be leaving for college.

Babies dont have sleep patterns. Its normal for a very new baby to sleep well, because theyre exhausted and recovering from birth. After that point they start to fluctuate on their sleep patterns.

You didnt do anything wrong.

Just keep doing things the same each night, the same way, at the same time each night. She will learn that night time is for sleepnig, and day time is for being awake or napping.

Everything is fine.
