As is the usual way of film,it holds closely to the novel, one of those rare occasions where the screenwriter didn't mess about w/the tone & flavor of the novel,in fact,he deepens it.in one scene, when Atticus is sitting on the porch sing w/his arm over the back,at first,it looks just like what it is,but in reality, his deceased wife should be there on the swing w/him & it's clear how much he misses her. She's barely referred to in the bok,but cinamaticlly,it's a beautiful scene

Let's see...
In the movie, Atticus gives Jem and Scout a pocket watch and necklace respectively. Scout did not get a necklace in the book.
The missionary tea circle(which was an important part of the book) was not included in the movie.
Hmm...they did not really show much of Jem maturing.
At the last scene, Scout did not stand on Boo's and 'stand in his shoes' as she did in the book.(look this part up in the book)
Last, Dolphus Raymond wasn't even mentioned in the movie. He was quite a significant character in the book, I feel.
That's all I can remember. =)

They were pretty similar .... both came out in black and white
I think in the court room scene, the son picks up on the clues quicker than anyone else in the book.

In this day and age, you can get the book free at your library and the movie can be rented for pennies. Lazy!
