I Have a 1/2 horsepower pump hooked to a 2 inch well. The water coming out looks to be about 3 gallons a minute. My neighbor has the same 2 inch well but with a 3/4 horse pump and his water volume puts mine to shame. I have a hard time even watering the lawn. Our pumps out here are jet pumps converted to deepwell to reach the 32 foot deep water table. A 1HP 4" submersible will cost me about $3500 so I would like to clean the old screen and put in a 1HP jet pump if possible.

If you can remove the well point (major job) you can immerse it in acid to clean off the lime (calcium carbonate actually). Do not leave in acid long as it will also attack the metal.

Some people acidify the well in place but this can be difficult because of the acid strength needed and the subsequent difficulty getting all the acid out.
