You could say that in the universe, there was a big ball of matter.
Matter is everything. The desk is matter, the chalkboard is matter! The chair you're sitting in is matter! You could point to things and say they're all matter. But then one day it all exploded, and the planets formed while everything was spinning. The earth is still spinning after the big explosion!
Maybe?
Hope it helps.
Good luck!

first of all i would like to mention you that even if you are going to explain this to the elementary classes you should do it in detail .while teaching them make sure that they understand each and every term you speak.what so ever time it takes you should explain in detail.never go for short and elementary explanations because it leaves doubts in the child's mind.
Thank you.
explaining the kids about this theory is a bit difficult stuff but still you can make em understand this by saying the following.
first of all tell them that long back in time when there existed nothing in the space (14.5 billion years ago)some unknown particles present in the space clustered together to form a huge mass of the same. This mass of unknown particles all along the time in our space then started becoming more and more compact and more dense thus under its own pressure of gravity the mass then exploded.this explosion was termed the big bang by some scientists and was considered to be the most suitable theory for explaining the the birth of the universe . then those particles went on expanding and they formed the first elements (like hydrogen ,helium and lithium)due certain temperature and pressure conditionsand these further formed many other elements and finally these elements again clustered together to form stars ,galaxies e.t,c

Donty u worry. Hey just tell em that a million years be4, the universe was considered to be just a huge block(any shape which the kids like).well then a huge explosion happened (due due certain high pressure stuff.. well dnt tell em dis) and then the poor huge block bursted. It then burst into small particles and due to the impact of the explosion they(particles) scattered to every corner. Thus thse particles formed the difft. planets,comets,stars,meteors... Dnt worry kids will love it.JUst make it sound very intersting.(like a tale) Well this is called BIG BANG THEORY!!!!(dur to the bang)
BEST OF LUCK!!!!!

Take a balloon. Dot it with spots all over using a felt pen or marker. These spots are the galaxies.
Now blow up the balloon, as the balloon expands, the spots move farther away from each other. This is what is happening with the Universe. After the Big Bang, matter concentrated in galaxies is moving away from each other.

i would try explaining pluto first
dont you think at this age the thought of spinning on
a big blue planet and were they are is enough!!and
as a teacher teaching theroy to this age group is
i think scandolous
so try to explain E=mc2...
thats just wierd for that age group too much info on something that is not based on fact!
why dont you have them chart the moon for 30 days first

It is kind of hard considering it goes against most of the basic laws of science they should be learning (mainly the "something came from nothing" part).
