My daughter stopped drinking formula at 11 months old. She started walking well around the same time. Now she is running! She has lost weight during all this. She is not unhealthy thin, but has lost weight to where she actually fits into 12 month old clothes where she was wearing 18 month at times. I am concerned about this. She was a big baby at birth, 8pds. 13 oz. We go to the doctor for a check up in 2 days, but I was just wondering if anyone else's child has done this, lost weight when they started walking/came off formula and began drinking whole milk-eating solid food?

Ok, To clarify-I am not exactly sure that she has lost weight, but she looks thinner, perhaps taller. She eats fine, 3-4 meals a day and snacks.

It's normal for a child to slim down around the age of 1. They are transitioning from "baby" to "toddler." My 15-month-old fits in her 12-month stuff better than she did at 12 months. She went from a "chunky monkey" to a "skinny butt."
However, the kid shouldn't be actually LOSING weight. If she's growing taller and skinnier, that's fine, but the actual numbers on the scale shouldn't be going down.
Your doctor will let you know if there's a problem - make sure you ask at your appointment if you're concerned.

Its normal, my son dropped from the 90th percentile down to the 50th the month he started crawling at 6 months, and then he grew up and slipped from 12 month clothes to 3-6 month for shorts.
He bounced back though, he's 7.5 months now and shot back into the 75-90th already.
once kids get mobile they lose interest in anything but the world around them.
Your doctor will pitch a fit and run a mess of tests and tell you that you have to feed her more and that disaster is upon you. Tell him to shove it and take her home and feed her some food. No big deal.

Has she lost weight? Or it's just moved around? Anyway, it's normal for children to drop a little weight when they start walking and then running.

My girl did the same thing. I could tell when she was about to grow out of her clothes. she would chunk up ant then lean out. She is now 2 and a half and weighs 30 lbs and is still fitting in 18 months shorts. She has a really tiny waist and very long leggs. She fits in 2 and 3t paints in the lenght but I have to take in the waist. Alot of people think she is older because of her height. Even as a "baby" most people thought she was older. As long as she is eating and drinking then I wouldnt worry too much.

My daughter did the same thing. After a lil while, her weight evened out. I wouldn't be concerned unless she has lost her appetite.

Just an active petite miss...she will catch up once her body gets used to expending energy. Just make sure she has a lot of milk and good nutritious food to choose from. Healthy snacks like grapes, bananas, cheerios, peaches, brown toast, cheese...for snacks to refuel. She will be just fine!

Don't worry that's totally normal. I lost 15 lbs. when I came of the formula; and I'm a grown man.
