Why does it site address have .com instead of .edu ?

At first, I thought you were talking about CalTech (California Institute of Technology) which is an unquestionably prestigious university.
Then you said something about ".com", so I ran a Google search and found http://www.caluniversity.com the website for "California University of Technology."
It's a for-profit school in Diamond Bar (near Pomona, CA). It is accredited by some agency I have never heard of. That means: THIS IS NOT A GOOD SCHOOL. For-profit schools are not favored because many of them practically sell you a diploma -- they are not selective in their admissions criteria, they often do a half-assed job of educating students.
If you want to attend a tech school near Pomona, CalPoly Pomona is a good deal. CalTech is excellent if you can get in. And well, I'm always extolling the virtues of UC Berkeley, even though it's about 400+ miles from Pomona.
In any case, that school you were looking at isn't worth your time or money. You will do better to take community college courses first and then transfer into a better school.

If you mean California Institute of Technology -- better known as Cal Tech -- then Yes, it is excellent. It is a top five university in the US. Some think it is a better school than MIT. Even if it is not, it is comparable.
The web address is an EDU address. It is below.
There is also a public university (with two campuses) called California Polytechnical State University (usually called Cal Poly). This is a very good state university -- but not nearly as good a program as those in the University of California system (e.g., Berkeley) and not as good as Cal Tech.

CalTech is an excellent school! It is hard to get into but well worth it. About the web address..... I dont know.
