I wasn't a Grateful Dead fan until after Jerry Garcia died. I'm a pretty big fan now. I consider myself a pseudo-Head, as I never attended a show.

I will definately agree with a couple people on here. I didnt get the Smiths either, now Jonny Marr is playing with modest mouse and i look back at the smiths and i wonder why i never really liked them. Marr is one of the best rhythm guitarist ever. Dinosaur Jr. is also one of those bands. Initialy j. mascis' voice was a little hard to get over, but now i absolutely love it. I would also have to say Gameface.

Wow - you know, you ask some really thought-provoking questions!

I'd have to agree with you on the Dead. I never really liked them all that much when I was younger, but now that I'm older, I get what the hype was (is) all about.

Probably the only other one I can say would be Dinosaur Jr. (How odd is that?!) Initially I couldn't get past J. Mascis' voice. Now, I wonder what I was thinking - he's a freakin' genius!!

Johnny Cash passed before I got into his music.
I just started hearing it everywhere and it got kind of catchy.
I seen the movie "Walk The Line" and I ended up knowing all of the songs on the movie, not even realizing who was singing them. I thought his life story was interesting and wish he was around to still make music today!!!

For me it was Frank Zappa. It wasn't until I started seriously making music of my own that I understood the guy and got just how amazing he was.

I would have to say that I did not get The Smiths when I was growing up, now I do and I hate that I passed up on a few shows

Johnny Cash, I saw the music video for his version of Hurt and after I bought that CD I fell in love with the music. I started getting other CD's of his before he got as widely popular as he is now and it kinda feels like I was on the heels of going along with the crowd and discovering a great artist on my own.
