I had two strokes two years ago and I incurred aphasia. I went through therapy and also I can speech a little better, and was wondering if there were any current successful treatment for this disability. I know there is research going on, but I have seen on tv where there were people that have had a temporary speech loss and they speech fine now. I was wondering if maybe I got the wrong kind of treatment or not enough or if it something I'm gonna have to live with. Does anyone know anyone that has had successful treatment and what they did.

Penny,
I found several GOOD SITES for effective Aphasia Treatment(s). They are found at:
http://search.yahoo.com/search?search=aphasia+treatment+effective&ei=UTF-8&fr=ks-ques&ico-yahoo-search-value=http%3A%2F%2Frds.yahoo.com%2F_ylt%3DAmUKxVeWpM0jZoBJSnnIPpyC.Bd.%2FSIG%3D11iqjhgll%2FEXP%3D1188400273%2F*-http%253A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fsearch&ico-wikipedia-search-value=http%3A%2F%2Frds.yahoo.com%2F_ylt%3DAsLsyysV7lUgbVFbn_uezmeC.Bd.%2FSIG%3D121v80e58%2FEXP%3D1188400273%2F*-http%253A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSpecial%253aSearch&p=aphasia+treatment+effective
Please review them as you find the time. I am also disabled at present from Diabetic Problems. Have a wonderful week. I hope that this helps you in some way. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Eds

Aphasia is different in different people. Some people have milder strokes than others. Some people have a stroke that effects fewer parts of their brain.

If you haven't fully recovered your speech you should still be receiving speech therapy. Why did you stop?

If you only had therapy while in the hospital it was definitely not enough for a full recovery if your stroke was more severe.

Sorry about the effects of the stroke. The one thing tht will help you is practice. The stroke effected a certain area of your brain and cused Aphasia. With lots of practice- talking- you can forge other parts of the brain to take over this function. So, keep talking to anyone who will listen and if you run out of people, take a tape recorder and talk to it, so you get the feedback.
