I'm not an expert by all means, but I've been told that whatever you measure should be about the same as the week # pregnant you are. Give or take a week. Lets the dr. know how big or small the baby is. Sounds like your baby is growing slightly big.
For example: I am 35 1/2 weeks preg. At my last check up I was 34 weeks. I measured 33.

Is it a possibility that they got your due date wrong in the first place? It could be that they had it wrong in the beginning.
Also do you have gestational diabetes? I've heard that that can cause babies to get super big. I can't believe your doctor didn't explain things better. If it's really poking at your mind, call him back! It's his job to explain these things. Did he just set up an appointment as normal, or set up some kind of special event to see what's going on? I mean I'm sure your Baby is okay, but if I were you I'd want to know what's going on too!
A woman I know recently had a baby, and she was like 34-36 weeks pregnant and she went in for her appointment and she was measuring WAY ahead, so they got her an ultrasound pronto and the baby's estimated weight was 11lbs, so they took the baby via C-Section the next morning.
She had a healthy 10lbs 12oz. baby girl :-D So reguardless, you'll be fine.
Good luck! Maybe you'll get a month shaved off your time! Woohoo!

Each week has a set measurement for a pregnant woman's stomach. The two different scenarios for your circumstance would be either 1. you are further along than you thought and could have the baby earlier or 2. your baby is bigger than the average baby at 29 weeks. Next time ask your Dr. what he thinks and what your worries are, if you can't wait until next visit.... give him a call with your concerns

Measuring your belly is archaic. I dont know why some doctors still do it, and then relate it to patients in the terms of weeks.
Holy freaking crap.
It does NOT have anything to do with the size of the baby. On any level. That was a misconception doctors had from earlier years before U/S were more advanced and accurate.
There are averages set up in the medical field that all measurements are held to. They measure your belly to chart your rate of growth, and to make sure you're not getting smaller before the baby drops for delivery.
It does not have anything to do with how far along you are in pregnancy.
I measured at 42 weeks when I was only 32 weeks along, and I had a peanut baby at 7 pounds. I always measured three weeks ahead. But had a smaller sized baby. Especially considering all my family has 9-10 pound babies.

It could mean a number of things. Perhaps your dates were wrong, and your baby really is 33 weeks, it could mean bubs just had a growth spurt but will settle down as you get to full term, and sometimes it could mean diabetes, but since your Doctor obviously didnt say anything or didnt seem concerned, I wouldnt be either.
But next time, if you feel a bit weird about those sorts of things - ASK! Its your body and your baby!

yes it could just mean you have a big baby or you could be further along then you think. your doctor will probaly do more tests to figure out the differnce. dont be alarmed...relax and let your doctor do his/her job. considering the differnce in due dates the doctor will probaly wait and see more ultrasounds before making a final decision. i have had 4 kids, last were twins and i always had differnt readings up and until my third trimester. then they finally regulated out, so dont worry and take it easy ok!!!! feel free to e-mail me with any questions you might have at anniebellpurple@yahoo.com ok!!!
