The spelling is Cyclops and, yes, he is the one-eyed monster in Homer's Odyssey. The Cyclops' name in the Odyssey was Polyphemus and he came from a race of one-eyed giants. He is finally killed by Odysseus and his men after trapping them in his cave and eating several of the crew.

The Greek writer Hesiod also wrote of the Cyclopes in the Theogony.

Cyclops were one-eyed giants in Greek myths. The early ones were sons of Uranus and Gaia. Uranus did not like his monstrous offspring, so he imprisoned them in the underworld. Later, Zeus released them and they helped him in the war against the Titans. They forged Zeus' weapons, the thunderbolts. Later Cyclops were on an island visited by Odysseus on his return from Troy. Polyphemus ate several of Odysseus' men before the hero blinded the monster. This Cyclops was a son of Poseidon, so he was not one of the original Cyclops born much earlier to Uranus.

Cyclops (sī´klŏps) , plural Cyclopes (sīklō´pēz) , in Greek mythology, immense one-eyed beings. They appear in at least two distinct traditions. According to Hesiod the Cyclopes were smiths, the sons of Uranus and Gaea. They were imprisoned in Tartarus by their father and again by their brother Kronos. In return for their freedom they gave Zeus the thunderbolt that aided him in overthrowing Kronos. In Homer the Cyclopes are a lawless, barbarous, and pastoral people, one of whom (Polyphemus) Odysseus encounters in his wanderings.
