I have only had this betta, as well as 2 of his brothers for about 5 months. Casper and Rusty are doing fantastically well, I even got Casper to FINALLY accept pellet food and bloodworms (they were raised on Tropical Flakes only, so they have to eat Bettamin flakes because they won't eat anything else) Anyway, I had Dustin in a half gal. bowl and his water was a bit cool, so I put in a mini heater, I checked it and it was keeping the water around 75 degrees, the next day it was still 75 but Dustin's lower mandibal is swollen and it has a scab on it, it looks like he's been punched. He can still open it wide enough to breath, but he is having trouble eating, it takes him forever, so I think it hurts him. I have been changing his water daily and putting in Aquarium salt and ick treatment, I know it isn't ick, but the bottle say it's for all kinds of bacterial and fungal infections, it isn't working, So yesterday I bought Dustin and Casper a 1 gal bowl kit each, Rusty was already in one.

I think Casper loves his new bowl and new food (the pellets and bloodworms) because he's feistier than usual, I have him sitting on my desk because I love him so much I can't stop watching him. Anyway, his packet of Hikari food is standing beside his bowl and he is flaring like crazy at the two bettas on the top of the packet, I have to mave it so he doesn't start biting his tail (he does that when i put a mirror in front of him)

No, it's for freshwater fish, it's not ocean salt. This aquarium salt "helps speed recovery from illness and stress, and adds beneficial electrolytes" It's supposed to be used in freshwater tanks.

I have Bettas, and this is news to me! I never put a heater in their bowls, Bettas don't mind cool water. Maybe he was curious about this new thing in his bowl, and touched it?
When one of mine had pop-eye, I put him in a travel bowl, and took him down to my neighborhood fish store. The lady there said, sure enough, that's what it was.
She "prescribed" an antibiotic to clear it up. It's amoxicillin, made for fishes. I can't remember the name, but you drip it in the water, and it turns into a blue gel that the fish can't resist. He nibbled at it the first couple of days, then he'd eat it all up, and was fine in no time! So I recommend that, if nobody has a better suggestion. Amoxicillin should clear up most infections. It was only around $6 for the bottle, and should be available at most specialty fish stores. Better than ick treatment, because they actually ingest it, so it can do the most good.
I don't think I would be adding salt to his bowl. I know they can tolerate it to a point, but he is a freshwater fish, after all. Good luck!

what's the temperature of his water? Bettas are tropical fish that do suitable in temperatures of 76-86o. on the comparable time as they might stay to tell the tale exterior this manner, they don't thrive and ought to replace into much less energetic and not consume as nicely. additionally, if the bowl you have isn't filtered, the ammonia may well be boost - this finally finally effects in indicators of heavy gill circulate, loss of urge for foodstuff, lethargy, splitting fins, and pink streaks indoors the approach the fins and physique. there is likewise a purplish extremely than a res shade to the gills. it would be achieveable which you're feeding him too lots - they only decide on around 4 pellets 2 situations an afternoon, no rely if alternating pellets with bloodworms or daphnia is a robust concept.

you should have saved the money and invested in a 2.5 gallon tank with filter for each one

Anyway, it sounds like he got hurt somewhere, so I suggest getting Maracyn TC and treat him with that for at least 10 days as directet

And stop with the ick treatment right away, don't use meds if you don't need them

Also try to keep the temperature around 76-82 degrees

Hope that helps
good luck
