I know that it is a rock, but what is it called. I dont want to know what kind of rock it is, just what it is called...

They used two rocks, a "mano" which was a grinding stone held in the hands and used to crush the grains which were held in the "metate" which was a slightly bowl-shaped flat stone.

It's a matate (pronounced matatay) not sure on the spelling though.
