How does a pay go phone work?
Say I go to Walmart and purchase the Tracphone for $15 dollars. I take it home, and what do I do next? How do I activate it? Do I have to purchase a phone card? And do the phone card last for 1 year or the minutes goes away if I dont use it after 30 days ?

Thanks in advance

First you should buy a card with minutes on it, then you should activate your phone online(You get extra minutes by activating online) at www.tracfone.com. Then you can make a phone call and when you run out of minutes just buy another phone card and activate online because you get alot of extra minutes for doing things online

Tracfone, sucks ***. I would throw away the handset. The phone. And buy a T-Mobile to go or Virgin Mobile. Tracfone makes it necessary for you to spend $10 for about 20 minutes. T-Mobile is 30 minutes unless you have spent over $100 which makes you a gold rewards member and you get 37 minutes. The best deal on a pay as you go plan is spending money for the more expensive cards. $25 for T-Mobile will get you 2 hours unless you are gold rewards, then you get 2 hours and 36 minutes. T-mobile also gives free unlimited access to T-Zones, which is where you can pay for ringtones and wallpaper and games. It also has CNN, ESPN, and other fun stuff. The biggest thing is that with Tracfone you have to buy a seperate card for service on your phone, while with T-Mobile you get service with any time amount card. Also if you are gold rewards, you get 1 years service added to any card.

your best bet is to sign up with a monthly service plan with something like T-mobile. It' much cheaper than pre-paid and they're always running "no credit checks" promotions.

you buy the phone and it is activated
then you add minutes each mont for the minutes used.
they do not carry forward so do not over purchase your minutes.
