Drink more water and up the fiber in your diet. Sometimes people get constipated when pregnat not just from the vitamins, but because your insides are getting moved and squished.

If you have to poop and cant then you're constipated. If you're only pooping every 2-3 days because thats just when you have to go, then you're not constipated.
Many people dont poop every day, or even every other day.
You can stop the prenatals and take a flinstones. Everything you need you can get from those. Its the extra iron that stops you up.
Folic acid you get enough of from cereals and foods. Ask your OB, all the folic acid you needed in super high doses you needed before you were pregnant, and before you KNEW you were pregnant. the embryo uses those high levels for brain stem creation and development, which has already taken place.
Phillips fiber pills for constipation are a life saver, so is benefiber. ITs the only kind that doesnt give you gas, and you can dump a bunch on some branflakes in the morning.

Here are some tips for preventing and easing constipation:
• Eat high-fiber foods such as cereals, whole-grain breads, and fresh fruits and vegetables every day. Add a couple of tablespoons of unprocessed wheat bran (available at health food stores) to your cereal in the morning and follow it with a glass of water.
• Drink plenty of water — at least six to eight glasses a day. A glass of fruit juice every day, especially prune juice, can also be helpful.
• Exercise regularly. Walking, swimming, riding on a stationary bike, and yoga can all help ease constipation and leave you feeling more fit and healthy.
• Listen to your body. Never put off going to the bathroom when you feel the urge.
• Ask your healthcare provider about taking an over-the-counter fiber supplement or switching to an iron supplement with less iron.

Well this may sound funny, but i ate fruit loops. I had like 3 bowls 2 days in a row and well I had nothing left. I don't know why, but that was the only change in the diet. Maybe it had something to do with the fiber, but it sure worked. Don't get worried about the color (really weird green) it goes away.
Or you can do it the recommended way and drink a lot of water, eat a lot of veggies and high grains.
Good Luck!

You need to eat foods that are naturally high in fiber, and drink lots of water to go along w/it, or it will defeat the purpose. First, for breakfast, eat a Fiber One Chewy Bar-Oats & Peanut Butter-they taste really good, and give you more fiber than most bran cereals. Or try Raisin Nut Bran.
Then add things like brussels sprouts, brocolli, pears, prunes, apples, carrots, cabbage, whole-wheat bread, prune and vegetable juices to your diet. Also try YO+
Digestive Health by Yoplait yogurt, it has 3g fiber per serving, and it really does work, plus the calcium is good for your baby. I think fiber is the best way to go. Just remember, drink plenty of water, to absorb all that fiber, and don't add alot all at once, do it slowly, give your body time to adjust.

Try apple juice, drink a small glass before going to bed every night. Lots of people say it works really good. The constipation may pass too, it only happened to me during one pregnancy and it didn't last very long.

its horrible, right? i went to the emergency doctor thinking i was in premature labour!! im only 16 weeks, and was thoroughly embarassed when they told me it was gas and constipation. i was told to take senokot. but this is why i went hospital, after i took it i was having pains every 10 minutes.. as u can, thats why i thought i was in labour. avoid this as it squeezes ur bowels causing extreme pain. i was given lactulose by the doctor at the hosp, but i havent used it. ive been drinkin juice to empty out my system..and have been massaging my belly as this helps move the trapped wind. eat a lot of fibre it honestly does help..mines is going away now :) good luck xx

I would suggest finding what works for you and sticking with it.
For me it's a combination of Rasin Bran in the morning. Lots of water or fruit juice all day long. And a prenatal yoga dvd.
If one of these doesn't happen one day then... well, yeah. Best of luck to you!

ok, i know this sounds stupid, because rasins have iron in them, which is what binds you up.. but the only thing that got me through the constipation was eating at least one bowl of rasin bran every day.. the fiber in the bran makes a HUGE difference.

Make sure you are:
-drinking about 64 ounces of fluid per day (mainly water is best)
-eating mainly whole grains instead of things made with processed flours
-getting a lot of fiber through fruits, vegetables, and beans
