Last week we had a major storm in Chicago. I normally leave at 4pm and should have waited. I walk to the train and there was blowing and such but I didn't pay much attention and far be it from me that I wait a little bit.
When I get on the train, the conductor is pointing out all this destruction. There were trees uprooted everywhere. I even saw a few trees that had fallen on some houses.
At least I got home at my regular time.

The 1989 earthquake usually known as the Loma Prieta earthquake. I was in Santa Cruz, California, at the time. It was pretty awful, with water out for several days so we had to go down to the marsh at the end of the street and get buckets of water with which to flush the toilet. The electricity was out for nearly a week. My Steve stood in a line for several hours to buy bottled water, while I stayed home and worried about what had happened to him.
Our apartment was not much damaged, but there were cracks in the walls that required fixing, so the landlord sold the place instead to a non-profit organization for housing for disabled people. We ended up moving out when they wanted to renovate our apartment.
If you don't remember which one was the Loma Prieta quake, it was the one so many people saw on TV, where the World Series was about to start and suddenly the stadium started to shake, right on nation-wide TV!

It's in progress right now...15 inches of rain in a week. Severe flooding. A couple of people died about 4 blocks from here, drove into a creek.

Flooding.....just managed to get out of an area before it was totally cut off by flood waters....but the car needed quite a bit of attention, having ploughed through a lot of water.

About 2 years ago we had a cyclone that tore up the local banana plantations, and wrecked my garden. It also took the roof off my grandmother's house.

A tornado....it pretty much destroyed a great portion of our town. It was about 7 years ago and the town is still trying to rebuild some more....most of it is done though.
