You left out Sanjaya. The people who kept him in the game have a tin ear. How many times did he sing offkey? And how did Blake make it into the finale against Jordan? Phil had a better singing voice than him. What was really a shame was Melinda not being American Idol winner. She never had a bad night while the winner Jordan had a couple of poor performances. Melinda's problem was that she was over the age of 30 and when you have a voting populace that is predominately teens and early 20's whose criteria for staying on the show is sex appeal with talent running a distant second, the show has got a problem.

American Idol is entertainment, ratings are very very important. Without ratings their are no sponsors, without sponsors nothing else happens. Now, I look forward to American Idol, and especially the early rounds. Are the non performers truly exploited, I don't think so. Do some of these people really believe that Americans or anybody is interested in their non talent. Have their mom's and dad's been fair to them over they years by encouraging someone no one will want to see. First, you have to have some talent, you have to have a voice, and individual voice. If you sound like Johnny Mathis, that's swell at a party, onboard a ship, or at the state fair, but we already have a Johnny Mathis, so sound a likes aren't going to make it. Looks, you have to be somewhat attractive, especially if your a girl. If your 4'11'' and weight in at 210 pounds, no matter how you sound, your a looser. Guys are somewhat forgiven [Ruben Stoddard] on the looks. Did the "Bush baby" or his fat friend really think they would win??? The only draw was their oddity. Oddity draws, everyone likes a freak show, it affords these people their 15 minutes of fame. Again, with no ratings, there is no show, and without a show, a great singer will take years to be discovered [Carrie Underwood], if at all.

Everyone know that the only ones that make it in to see the Judges are the really good and the extremely bad. Yes they are doing it for ratings.....but also so America can see a mix of all the people they get. If you stand out its good for TV. They are a Network they are there for ratings. What I wish is that some one close to these poor people would tell them BEFORE they go on the show that they have no chance and maybe save them some embarrassment!

Yes they definitely do that - just watch and see how much of the auditions are the funny ones that will never make it. The only other ones they show are the ones who do make it. They don't show the in between's - When you think about it it's really sad because those people's feelings are being played. Most of those people genuinely think they can sing!
There have been several people on there that I thought was doing it as a bet just to show their friends they could get on there!
