With my love for the Yankees and my hatred for the Red Sox aside, there is no way Ortiz is, nor ever will be, better than Alex Rodriguez.

Personally, I never liked A-Rod until I saw what he could really do. He's an all-around great fielder and can hit the ball really well. When you take a look at Ortiz's fielding skills, you can see right then and there that A-Rod is better.

David Ortiz is severely overrated. He can't field to save his life. Granted, first base isn't the best position to show off your fielding skills, but I doubt he would be a great fielder no matter which position he is at, due to his lack of speed.

As for offence:

Ortiz averages 23 HR's a season, where as A-Rod averages 36.

Ortiz averages 107 Hits a season, where as A-Rod averages 158.

A-Rod has 259 career stolen bases. How many does Ortiz have? Only 8.

A-Rod: On Base Percentage: .388
Ortiz: On Base Percentage: .381

A-Rod: Slugging Percentage: .577
Ortiz: Slugging Percentage: .553

A-Rod: Average: .305
Ortiz: Average: .283

MVP Awards: A-Rod 2 & Ortiz 0.

A-Rod outnumbers Ortiz in every way. A-Rod is a future hall of famer and Ortiz, simply, is not. Anyone who thinks Ortiz is better than A-Rod is a complete tool and is obviously a huge BoSox fan boy.

FINAL SCORE:

A-Rod - 7
Ortiz - 0

I hate Alex Rodriguez. Ortiz is the man. However, no matter how much it pains me to say this, A-Rod is the better player every day of the week. He hits 50 homeruns a year, can play the field better than david ortiz, hits for a good average, and can steal bases. A-Rod has it all. The yankees suck, dont get me wrong, but fact has it that Ortiz is just not as good as A-rod. But, hey, when we have them both next year, it wont even matter.

Alex Rodriguez may go down as the greatest player of all time. He will most likely take over the all time home run record. Win a gold glove at two different positions and is a sure fire hall of famer he may even get in without a ballot that's how good he is. The only think Ortiz has that Alex doesn't yet is ONE ring.

To answer your question, A-Rod is the better player. Let's compare the stats:

A-Rod: 1875 Games; 7244 At Bats; 1478 Runs; 2213 Hits; 507 HR's; 1470 RBI's, 897 Walks; 1498 K's; 259 Stolen Bases; .305 BA; .577 SLG; .964 OPS

Ortiz: 1162 Games; 4110 At Bats; 716 Runs; 1181 Hits; 255 HR's; 850 RBI's; 626 Walks; 881 K's; 8 Stolen Bases; .287 BA; .553 SLG; .934 OPS

A-Rod clearly has better numbers across all categories. Add in the fact that A-Rod is an everyday defensive gem in the infield whereas Ortiz only is an offensive threat and it's no contest that A-Rod is the better player. But like a lot of allude to, A-Rod has yet to prove himself in the playoffs where he has well under a .200 BA.

Alex Rodriguez is a better around player because he pretty good field player. Plus if he wanted to he could steal quite a few bases as well. Ortiz is ok at first base when he plays there. Hitting wise they're pretty much equal even though Ortiz is having an off year.

Rodriguez is a destiny corridor of Famer who would retire because of the fact the best-ever HR chief. He runs properly and has performed at SS or 3B for his finished occupation. some say he ought to nonetheless play SS extra advantageous than Jeter. Ortiz is a prior due blooming DH with potential just about equivalent to A-Rod good now, yet he does play the sphere except the crimson Sox are in an NL park and can't run in any respect. by using all money owed, he's a large teammate and has a larger than life character, yet this question became no longer approximately who's the extra time-honored participant.

Alex Rodriguez is a position player where David Ortiz is not, hes a DH. Alex is a better all around Baseball player when you consider this. He also has more homeruns than "Big Papi". Alex has yet to define himself as a postseason player.

An everyday position player would be considered a complete ball player. A DH can't compare to a player that plays both defense as well as offense. A-Rod, just by talent alone is a far better ball player than Ortiz.
