Everything is gone from my desktop. I mean every single thing except the wallpaper. Even the start button is gone. I tried alt control del, I restarted, and nothing.
How can I fix this? Any help would be appreciated.

I have tried everything you guys menitoned, and nothing works. The problem is I don't have access to anything. I pressed the windows logo key, and nothing happens. I hit F5 and F8, and nothing works. How can I get to restore, if there's nothing on the desktop? Absolutely nothing but the wallpaper. No matter what I hit, nothing happens. The only thing that works is alt cont. del. I restarted, but nothing. I plugged and unplugged, nothing again.

Your computer will have either come with a Windows CD or a partition on your hard drive usually labled 'D' used for restoring damaged Windows installs. A partition is just a block of hard drive space set aside for a specific purpose.
If you have the CD, insert it before you shutdown your computer. When you power up your computer again, it should boot from the CD. You can follow the prompts to re-install the Windows. If you choose not to re-format anything when prompted and just install the OS(operating system, meaning Windows in this case) you should be able to retain all your data, just a lot of your desktop settings will be gone.
If you don't have a CD or your computer uses another partition for restoring you have to change your BIOS settings. This is done at boot up. Usually the first screen you have after power on is an advertisment screen. The second one will give you an option to press some buttons to enter setup. Do this and you will enter the BIOS program. This is where the boot sequence is set. The first item in the boot sequence is the first thing the computer looks at to find data when it is first turned on. So find the boot sequence screen and set the first item to either CDROM or D depending on your circumstanses. Then when the computer boots you will go into a re-install or restore program and then follow the prompts. Usually the keyboard is used to navigate this program and not the mouse.
If you have very important things on this computer or you don't feel comfortable playing around with this then calling the Geek Squad as mentioned above may be your best bet. Or, if the computer is relatively new you can call tech support and they will walk you through the process. Otherwise, you seem like a pretty intelligent person. I think if you give it a try you can eventually figure it out. Your owners manual, either hard copy or on CD may also have some information on using the BIOS program or on installing Windows.

Press windows logo key on the keyboard and scroll to system restore and restore to yesterday or whatever.

You can also reboot just at stat up press and hold F8 for a second scroll using arrows to Last Known Good Configuration press Enter and go from there.

Cheers.

Maybe:
-hit the F5 button; or
-log off, then log back on; or if that doesn't work,
-restart

And to launch the start menu, press the button on your keyboard that has the Windows logo on it.
Go in there and run a virus scan too.
(Start > All Programs > Your Virus Program Name > Control Centre or something similar)

Good luck!

Something has hijacked your desktop and is keeping explorer.exe from running. If you can run Hijackthis and find the culprit then remove it and reboot the problem should be fixed. If that doesn't work then your only other options is either Reload or run the windows repair feature.

This might sound stupid but have you tried moving the mouse pointer to the bottom of your monitor screen? Sometimes the menu bar gets hidden and all you have to do is move the mouse to the bottom and it will reappear.

I'm not sure if you have the xp operating system if you do go to restore and try restoring your computer to a earlier date.If that works properly your stuff should come back hopefully.

Toss your windows disk in, change your boot order to boot from the CD, and then try the fix installation option.
