i want to be the best that i can be at what i can do well.

Be the best - has lots of depth for me. Just earning money cannot be claimed as best. Along with it there are much more to be earned, which are more difficult and challenging than money.

We need to earn them to be the best.
For me being the best is a whole some issue rather than a piece of issue.

To be the best in something, choose a thing to do
that other people did not think about choosing and
doing

BTW, this, luckily, is not specific to America.
It is precisely the World diversity that enlarge the
scope of things to choose.

At best, a wishful thinking.America had it's heydays and now is the turn of one of the emerging nations like .may be China or India.
