My parents were always there for me. Mom took such good care of me that I felt suffocated, but her intentions were in my best interest. Dad wasn't affectionate. He was the bread winner, the guy who mowed the lawn and fixed the cars.
After I got married, we remained a close family. They owned a cabin above a lake where we always spent lots of time together waterskiing, dirtbike riding, taking walks and playing board games, just mom, dad, my x, my son and me.
It didn't turn out the way I planned it. But daddy and I had a very close relationship toward the end of his life. I realize now how very much he loved me all those childhood years. He was just trying to be a strong parental example. He really loved me, and I love him still. Mom is in a nursing home with Alzheimer's. I try to visit her as often as possible. If the situation were reversed, she would be at my side every day.

Yes. They are old now and have a body of work behind them. They were not perfect people. But they were two people who always gave 150 percent, with loving and teaching their children a priority. Sometimes being young is rough, But try to compare where you are with your parents to what some other people call being parents. Its an eye opener.

I get along pretty good with my mom, even though she drives me nuts. My father - haven't spoken to him in years.
