It gets treated so much like a family reunion right down to meals afterward. Do you think that person, if they could hear all the conversations going on would be happy?

of course..all the memories being shared, the laughter over the silly things said and done in their lifetime, all the petty jealousies still thriving, the greed being hidden in so subtle ways..yeah it's a hoot

I agree, funerals are for the living. I personally think it's disrespectful and a little selfish to display the body of someone who has passed on. When I loss my grandmother and my great-aunts ( I loved them very much) they had lived full lives and instead of a sad day of crying and regrets, I thought it should have been a day of celebration for the joy and many years of love we shared in life.

Yes, and they are usually obscenely priced. I just ask to be cremated and have my ashes scattered in the ocean. If my friends want to have a potluck or a picnic later, that's up to them. But if you truly care, show that to a loved one while they're here. After wards is too late.

I believe that a funeral is definitely for the living....it's usually a way of celebrating the life of the dead person.

most relatives won't visit until someone's dead, and in funerals, a lot of them would say "oh, i was really planning to see him/her".
well, i must admit that ,setting the sadness of losing a loved one aside, i enjoy the yummy catered food and staying up late to play or chat with cousins :b

Who says they are not present? Funerals are for closure for family and friends.

Yes, they are for the living 100%. There is nothing else at all we can do for the deceased.
