Especially if these two hypothetical people have an uncommon name? Is this like incest? This is just a hypothetical situation by the way.

Assuming you're not cousins (and it should be pretty easy to determine), not at all. If you get married you're going to have the same last name anyway - how convenient is that?!

I have a fairly rare last name and I have travelled quite a bit in the US and internationally. I've met many people who were at most very distantly related who had the same name, and if I had fallen in love - who cares? It might be the topic of conversation at your wedding, explaining that it isn't the taboo thing some might think.

At any other time in your life other than your wedding, who is even going to know? And if we know we're not wrong, why would we even care what other people think?

No.This is not a problem. There are hundreds of people taht share the same lase name and are not kin.
Yes people will think incest and that it is a cousin or something.
But it is nothing wrong if the 2 of you check it out,and are comfortable with it.

There's no law against it as long as you're not siblings/parent-n-child.

If you're in doubt about heritage, get a DNA test.

Otherwise, why would it be incest?
