Don't know about you but I would have been totally freaked out if I were not allowed to be there in the operating theater witnessing the birth of my second child. My first was a natural birth but the quack was a stuffy old bastard that did not want fathers in the ward. My second child required an epidural Caesar - I got permission to watch the whole C section bit whilst holding my missus' hand. Just so magnificent .. I think the staff felt that I would pass out or something.. cannot understand why; it was like opening a present.. I was so damn excited. I believe it made me a more understanding husband and father.

I feel that I "bonded" better with my daughter as a result of being right there to witness her first breath.

If you're not comfortable, don't go in the room. You have that right. Also, you can be there but you don't necessarily have to look.

That said, most American men are excited to see their children born.

Those who might not want to watch suffer through that very minor inconvenience as a way of supporting their woman, who is EXTRUDING A HUMAN BEING FROM HER BODY in an agonizing process that takes hours and hours. He helped make the kid, least he can do is feed her ice chips and put wash cloths on her forehead.

If you were man enough to help make the baby, you should be man enough to watch the baby be born. The mother has no choice. She needs your support!

Because a woman can't leave well enough alone. Is there no place where she can't bit*ch at us, "you did this to me, don't ever f**king touch me again!". Like we didn't hear you using Gods name when we did it. Just to top it all off they make you cut the damn cord, how am I suppose to enjoy a good sausage and beer after that?
I'd like to add more but my wife wants me to do the dishes.
Yes dear I coming.

I live in the Philippines and they don't allow the Father in there!
I have been fighting them for a month now, but they won't budge.
They are afraid something will go wrong and don't want anyone to see anything they can sue for!

It's a bit rough when you've got a weak stomach -
There really shoud be choice involved.......
I mean to say, if your husband can't stand the smell of perming lotion and..faints - really how can he be expected to attend a birth?
(albeit of a child of his own....... the saying... is what you never experience, you'll never miss)

Then that is by all means your choice.... To each his own...
If and when that situation arises, my sweetheart wants to be in the delivery room with me... I welcome his choice... and his support...
