Just wondering why does Voldemort look so scary and snake-like? Isn't it that during his times at Hogwarts, they say that he was good-looking? What happened to him now? Is it because he got blasted when his cursed got backfired and lost his body?

When he began to split his soul that is when he began the transformation into the snake thing. If you read in the 6th book about the night he ask for a job a Hogwarts his skin is already waxy because of the things he has done and the Horcrux he has created.

Hi, as you said Voldemort was very good looking when he was studying at Hogwarts. However, as described in the 6th novel 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Voldemort wanted to attain immortality and to this purpose he started creating Horcruxes. Every time he killed a person a part of his soul would separate from his body and Voldemort would trap it in an object. In this way he could always return.

Due to the fact that he was always loosing parts of his soul, Voldemort started looking less human and that is why he finally looks very snake-like. He killed so many people and split his soul in so many parts that there was little human left of him.

How this answers you question:)

It is combination of various different things that has resulted in my current appearance actually. I noticed a slight change in the texture and color of my skin when I made my first horcrux, but it was unimportant really. The benefits out weighed any loss of ascetic appeal. Not only was I assuring myself a sort of immortality but, I was thinking clearer my mind became more focused and undaunted by trivial matters which I have always been good at ignoring but, became better at doing, once the split was made. So yes after the seventh, there was a significant change, I still had a recognizable nose, and hair however, and really at that point I was able to use my less then human appearance to my advantage in order to intimidate those that needed it, as I used my good looks in my youth to persuade those that needed persuading. However it wasn't until I attained my second magically, formed body that I found myself looking into a pair of vivid scarlet eyes, and completely hairless bone white figure whilst I looked into the mirror. It was a bit shocking to even myself I admit but after spending 14 years as mere vapor only having substance when possesing the body of others and, then simply retaining the form of a sickly baby, looks become all the more irrelevant, in comparison to a practical stature and the full use of one's power. I assume my features have taken on a snake like quality do to the fact that I fed on a potion of my own invention comprised mostly of Nagini's venom during the time when I was forced to endure that grotesque and small form. I haven't any regrets however.

Voldemort was not doubt good-looking while at Hogwarts. It was after leaving Hogwarts he started doing all sorts of evil magic. As his heart began filling with evil it started reflecting on his body. Moreover he resorted to the most dark magic of Horcrux thinking that he was making himself invincible. Making a horcrux means killing people and after your heart is filled with evil tearing your soul apart and putting in it something. He tore his soul into seven parts the max. one can do. And therefore for that he killed a lot many people. This is why his face looks so evil.

He used to be handsome, it's in his family. But then when he unknowingly made Harry a horcrux when he tried to kill him, the small part of his soul that was left to him was torn from his body, making him just like a "spirit". On book 4 he formed himself a body. Of course you can't recreate yourself just like you were born (magic can't do that) so he had a scary looking form instead.

It's probably because his soul was so corrupted with evil that he eventually started to turn evil looking. It's like a reflection of his soul, I think.
But don't you think he was really hot in the days before he went totally nasty?

He did such horrible things and split his soul so many times that he his appearance changed to something revolting. I actually believe it really does happen. . . . how many times have you looked at a serial murderer on TV and thought "oh, he's handsome"? It's never happened for me. . . . usually they look creepy and scary.

It is mostly because he split his soul in seven parts to create Horcruxes.
